Emergency Situations

There are a number of different situations that can arise in the workplace that may require emergency action to be taken.

These can include:

  • First aid and medical emergencies
  • Fires and explosions
  • Hazardous gas or vapour leaks
  • Leaks and spills of hazardous substances
  • Bomb threats

Clearly not everyone will be able to deal directly with all these situations. Many will require expert knowledge, such as cleaning up hazardous substances.

It is important however that everyone should consider what emergencies they are most likely to be faced with and what is expected of them in these situations.

This could include knowing the location of, and how to use, portable fire extinguishers, other fire fighting equipment, emergency showers and emergency eye wash stations. Also acknowledge of how to administer first aid.

Some situations may also require an evacuation of the area, the building or the whole site. Everyone should be fully aware of evacuation procedures for their workplace, including appropriate exit routes and location of assembly areas.

If you experience an emergency situation please advise your direct supervisor, if necessary contact emergency services on 000 and contact Labour Solutions Australia on 07 33673700 when possible.
