Later next month, The World Steel Association is about to inaugurate its first Steel Safety Day.
The day was chosen as it falls on World Safety Day, also on the 28th.
The idea behind the Steel Safety Day is to create awareness regarding the safety of workers also to incorporate measures to avoid accidents in the work places. The main reasons behind workplace accidents are: gas explosions, overhead cranes, falling objects and moving machines. All the members of the association were requested to conduct a review regarding the causes of workplace accidents for this day.

The director general of World Steel, Edwin Basson had said that it was expected that all steel Plant in the world has executed the recommended audit, identified and thereby devise a plan to get rid of the risks associated happy wheels with the main causes of accidents. They are also expected to put all extenuating measures into place permanently.
To make the workplace a better and more secure place, collective industrial effort is necessary.
The Chairman of World Steel Safety and Health Committee called Andrew Page had said that Since 2006, the steel industry has witnessed a consistent and evident reduction in workplace accidents as such the lost-time injury frequency rate on a average has reduced by 50% in the last five years. He also added that it is the duty of every association to take care of the workers in the best possible way. Therefore management is responsible for the health and safety issues of the workers.
A Consolidated effort on part of the employers is very necessary to make the idea a success. Even the workers need to understand their right to minimum working standards for bringing out a visible change in the work field.
However he also added but the main focus is to create a working environment that is illness-free, injury-free and also healthy at the same time.
